Celebrate Waldoboro Day

Audrey Bechler Selected as Waldoboro Day Parade Grand Marshal

The annual Waldoboro Day celebration has been scheduled for June 16, 2012!

The Waldoboro Day Committee has had its first meeting to set the date, to choose the theme and to pick our Grand Marshal. We have selected Audrey Bechler as the Grand Marshal this year to honor her lifetime as an artist and pay tribute to her late husband Charlie, who was an accomplished jazz musician. We have an abundant resource of artists, musicians, sculptors, weavers, welders and unique crafters throughout our community. This year we want to call out to all of them to help inspire special floats for the parade, share ideas for “Arts in the Park”, prepare

musical and dramatic performances for the Annex and the Waldo Theatre and plan some Arts & Craft Fairs for the local halls and civic buildings in our downtown. Our local waldoboroDay2012businesses could host local artists’ works during that week, while the schools might encourage the classes to come up with sculptures, totem poles, mobiles and streamers to be placed all around Waldoboro, in park settings on both sides of the river. Civic organizations could plan to use crafts as fundraising items to show off talents such as: carving, knitting, welding, sewing, painting, photography and framing. Create what would interest you on Waldoboro Day. You can participate, too!

Our next meeting is on Monday, February 27 at 9am at the Waldoboro Town Office. Hope to see you then! This message is from the Co-Chairs of the Waldoboro Day Committee, Caren Clark and James Bodman. You can contact them at 832-0633 and 832-4424, respectively.
