The Town of Waldoboro is currently recruiting Fire Fighters and those who would like to become Fire Fighters. Waldoboro Firemen are responsible for maintenance of the fire station, equipment, and apparatus. They respond to emergencies and administer basic life support when necessary. The ideal candidate would want to take an active role in training, fire prevention and public education. Monthly training is provided. Volunteer Assistant Fire Chief
Reporting directly to the Fire Chief, the Assistant Fire Chief is a member of the leadership team that
oversees a fire department with an excellent reputation. There are currently 20 paid on-call positions,
working from one station and supported by a $170,000 annual budget. Each year the Waldoboro Fire
Department responds to approximately 200+ emergency calls. The department is made up of three
pumpers, a 4x4 rescue/forestry pumper and has a new 107’aerial ladder truck currently in construction.
Minimum qualifications required to be selected as Assistant Fire Chief:
Experience in Fire Service and progressive supervisory experience as a fire officer (captain or higher is
preferred) and must have proof of progressive, continued education and training (FF I&II Fire Officer I&II
preferred). An annual stipend will be negotiated, depending on qualifications and experience in addition
to the hourly wage of $13.89. Residency within Waldoboro is required.
The ideal candidate will have a record of establishing strong relationships with subordinate firefighters
and departmental leadership. Candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills when interacting with
elected officials and the public. This position requires an extensive knowledge of apparatus, equipment
and their maintenance. Proficiency in computers is also required. The Waldoboro Fire Department
takes pride in being active in our town. The candidate must be willing to commit to supporting the
department’s association and its mission to volunteering in our community.
