On Saturday, May 10th, area youngsters had the opportunity to participate in the USA Junior Olympics Skills Competition. This free grass roots youth participation program allows boys and girls, competing separately, the opportunity to showcase their athletic abilities in four events: Basketball, Track & Field, Soccer & Tennis. The program is designed to encourage youth participation in sport while promoting sportsmanship. The program, hosted by the Waldoboro Recreation Department took place at Medomak Valley High School. The champions in each event were:
8/9 Girls Division
Basketball - Gabrielle Depatsy (Waldoboro)
Tennis - Soccer - Track & Field - Kathrine Goldrup (Waldoboro)
8/9 Boys Division
Basketball - Channing Soper (Waldoboro)
Track & Field - Tennis - Joshua Goldrup (Waldoboro)

10/11 Boys Division

12/13 Boys Division

Champions in each event have earned the chance to compete tin the Regional Competition which will be held in Sanford on June 21st. This is one of the Regional Competitions being held nationwide that will determine those youngsters advancing to the National Finals.
